@Hague_Jour_Dipl I do believe the Biden Green-In was also a complete foul up, but technology-wise. Letts did a very good political sketch on it in The Times.

@shaun_riordan Agreed, although the EU itself is becoming a source of strain on some of its members and a distraction getting in the way of other members speaking with a clearer voice and exercising more responsibility.

When will the EC finally get it - that UK’s departure is good for the EU, which can then focus on other, much more serious, problems without the British distraction
Ursula von der Leyen@vonderleyen

#LSEEurope: Before the end of the month, I expect both the British & European Parliaments to ratify the agreement. In just over 3 weeks, on the 31st of January, the UK will spend its last day as a member state. This will be a tough and emotional day.

@bentpaddlebeer Well done getting rid of those ghastly plastic snap tops and replacing them with simple boxes. I thank you. My wife thanks you. And most of all, my arthritic thumbs thank you.

Just back from ISA and a panel on the theory of diplomacy. Baggy suited credentialing, gendered procedural silencing, Charlie Wilson, the theatre of the mask, and Burke on parliamentary representation all on one panel. Where else would you get this but in the study of diplomacy?

Torn about the summit. On the one hand it was breaking every single rule we know about success in these things. On the other, what if it had worked? Loads to think about. Of course, it may be back on tomorrow!

@JanMDiplo The assumption that diplomacy requires its own careful language is undergoing a big test and oddly, we hope the assumption is proved wrong.

The price of getting a phone chat with Xi was re-confirming US one-China policy. There seems to be a new calculus in place.

Paxman in today's Telegraph speaks of "re-booting the official mind" for Brexit. Interesting diplomatic training issues for FCO.

Remain grief today like Gramsci in 20's. If we're so smart, good, and right, how on earth did we lose?
