@phillykeyguy Eisenhower had to send the military into the south in the 50’s to enforce desegregation. The same democrats that opposed the 13th, 14th,15th Amendments filibustered and opposed the Civil Rights Act. None of them switched parties. Has the welfare state helped or kept people down?

@maga1_patriot That rant is ahistorical trash. Slaveholding was core to the South, not a side hobby, and the parties did realign over civil rights. Also, red=GOP/blue=Dem wasn’t “changed in 1984”; it stuck after 2000.

@maga1_patriot Whether a slave was worth ‘$100K’ today misses the point. Slavery was a massive Southern system, not a niche hobby in a few states. Nearly 4 million enslaved people in 1860, spread across the slave South. Concentrated? Yes. Peripheral? No.

@maga1_patriot Lincoln’s initial goal was Union, not immediate abolition. True. But that doesn’t erase the cause of secession: Southern states said slavery was central. Britain/France eyed intervention over cotton and geopolitics, not because slavery wasn’t the issue.
