@poly_psywork @drinkfullofcup When any amount criticism of a minority comes with an equal amount of people just riding on the chance to be a bigot, it’s important that we step back so that our criticisms don’t just melt into bigotry

@AmyTheIdoit @drinkfullofcup then again, you open the floodgates to the suppression of genuine critique like im not saying you have to always put up your pitchforks and jump in but you cant also run defense all the time a lot of the time whenever i see this, after the dust settles nothing comes of it.

@poly_psywork @drinkfullofcup Obviously we shouldn’t uncritically support bad things, but any time that I see any minority member being accused of something problematic my instinct will be to give them grace and discuss the broader implications after the dust has settled

@DevilMantis11 @AHABSOUP i can also bring up the fact that many trans poc are unfairly held to white standards and accused of being fakes for not conforming to said standards, and whenever this is confronted people accuse said poc of transphobia. i still dont uncritically defend every of my people tho

@poly_psywork @AHABSOUP Moreover this isnt a problem unique to either side. Transmisogynistic trans men genuinely created neo Nazi caricatures will defend themselves with some sort of "I'm trans masc and marginalized". Not to mention people calling every trans woman "white" regardless of race

@AmyTheIdoit @drinkfullofcup people arent intellectually simple. they can handle combatting bigotry without inadvertently defending horrible people. accountability can coexist with defending against bigots

@AmyTheIdoit @drinkfullofcup its not just a trans thing i hope its clear, but my tweet was critiquing a specific subset of this behavior. and yeah transphobia is still rampant but similar things happen across every minority group. you cant uncritically defend bad people to defend against bigotry. fire w fire
