We can empathise with voters + accept the result but Trump’s victory does not make his program or vision better. We were wrong to believe Kamala Harris would win. We were not wrong to believe that she should have won. Or that the values + vision that she represents can win again

I am embarrassed to admit how many times I’ve watched this remix.

What happened last night was not funny. Far-left activists disrupted the event, which then had to be stopped for security reasons. This is done to intimidate people and suppress free speech. I won't stand for it. Would we see the same reaction if the activists were far-right?

In his RNC speech, he proved he can still keep a crowd in the palm of his hand for a full 90 minutes, the length of a movie - a remarkable feat for any speech, but one which Trump has been pulling off at rallies for years now. The rhetoric of the speech is remarkable. The simple storytelling. The way he uses the story of his shooting as a metaphor for the nation. The appeals to flag, faith and family running throughout, supported with more stories. The linguistic simplicity. The consistent messaging (MAGA). The rhetorical devices - constant repetition, rules of three, as well as: Asyndeton - 'No arms, no legs, face explosions. Horrifically, horrifically wounded.' Epizeuxis - 'Fight! Fight! Fight', like 'Education, Education, Education' with Blair, this is surely destined for the history books as ultimate Trump. Hyperbole - 'I could stop wars with just a telephone call.' The way he connects past with future. The playful pop culture references - not just the big name checks for Hulk Hogan and Billy Graham, connecting the closure of asylums with Hannibal Lecter/Silence of The Lambs - 'bad things are going to happen; summarising his energy policy as 'Drill baby, drill' - a reference to The Trammps, Disco Inferno). This IS politics as entertainment, speeches written like Hollywood movies and and, surprise surprise, it connects with a lot of people. Really, what the hell are the Democrats doing with Biden?
