Mate, you're an American. You don't have a "left". Neither of your main parties supports comprehensive social welfare. You have zero concept of class analysis & Keynesian economics. You feed kids expensive drugs, making big companies rich, & pretend you are radical while failing to challenge fundamental human rights issues like a lack of maternity rights, access to abortion, gun control, medical care, & the death penalty. The new guidance from @ELCouncil is dismal. They could find themselves in receipt of a legal challenge on very solid grounds.
Of particular note:
The pool of consultees they’ve used is shallow and familiar, even referencing the dreaded Hate Crime & Public Order (Scotland) Act 2021. How about that for the ultimate threat to worried parents.
Ominously, TIE said @ELCouncil statement was “one of the best they have read”.
They refer heavily to debunked and unlawful @scotgov 2021 guidance, seemingly ignoring the UKSC ruling.
It appears to suggest children age 12-16 have a legal agency which they do not, including but not isolated to ensuring parents are not consulted or included in serious, potentially life altering decisions.
Helpfully I suppose, I’m a parent in East Lothian with no plans to let this one sleep. Anyone else…?

@DavidMcHutchon First pic is from school guidance, East Lothian in this case but could be anywhere, second is what the law actually says. Children are being permitted to change their sex on official school records and make all sorts of adult decisions without their parents knowledge or consent.

What is a reporter or sub to do in this situation? You know it’s a man: the CPS, along with court officials, lie and say ‘woman’.
First, and easiest, you can avoid all female pronouns, and neutralise the copy.
Second, so long as you don’t misquote court proceedings, you can call him a man and use male pronouns. The fact that he’s a man was raised in court. It’s in the public domain. The case is over: he’s guilty. There’s no question of identification, or contempt. Ipso processes mean he’d have to make a complaint himself about ‘misgendering’ (or through a representative) for it to be considered. Ipso would then be in the position of potentially upholding a killer’s demand over reporter accuracy.
Third, if it’s not raised in court, you are allowed to ask - is this a male, is it a crime recorded by a male, will he go to a female jail. After conviction, backgroundbpueces can contain all sorts of extra information.
You don’t have to copy a captured justice system. A faithful report of proceedings is not always accurate.
