Can we stop with the “I don’t support Iran’s Islamic authoritarian regime but I do support them standing up to Israel and the US. Both positions can coexist” nonsense. This is not nuance. It is standing with the regime in Iran and against the people begging not to be massacred. A regime that has consistently lied about their ballistic missile capabilities and who have always been clear about their nuclear bomb intentions.
Take Ali Motahari here, a prominent politician and former lawmaker who served in the Iranian Parliament until 2020 who let it slip in an interview that Iran had originally intended to build a nuclear bomb for intimidation purposes but the plan was exposed before it was completed.

@suchitrav @project_polis Are there no laws on what weapons para military or police forces can buy? Especially police forces because their budgets are sanctioned by state governments? I think militarisation of police is dangerous for citizens and also not very good for the federal structure.

Superb article written by an Iranian who truly understands how this regime works still executing young protestors, firing off ballistic missiles despite having no leadership, and no money to pay its security forces:

The Islamic Republic is living inside its collapse plan. That is not evidence of resilience. It is evidence that the system is collapsing. What many observers read as signs of endurance, continued missile fire, street repression, state broadcasting, leadership succession, and other visible signs of continuity, do not show a regime that has absorbed the shock. They show a regime falling back on the emergency mechanisms it built for the moment its center was hit and its command structure began to fracture. This is not strength.
