DOLPHIN FORCED TO PERFORM DURING CANCER RECOVERY 🐬
Meet Zippy.
Purposely bred at the misleadingly named Coffs Coast Wildlife “Sanctuary” (previously known as Pet Porpoise Pool). Zippy has spent his entire life in captivity, exploited for “entertainment.”
Thanks to our MP Emma Hurst's work in Parliament, NSW has banned the commercial breeding of dolphins in captivity. But Zippy and other dolphins remain there, kept in small barren pools and still treated like circus animals.
Zippy just had surgery for cancer in his mouth.
Captivity is inherently cruel, but exploiting a dolphin recovering from cancer is a new low, and it exposes exactly what this facility prioritises.
It is highly irresponsible from a veterinary and public safety perspective to allow the public to touch an animal who just had surgery.
The risks are real:
☠️ Infection: A surgical wound in the mouth is an open gateway to the bloodstream.
☠️ Contamination: Touching the water or the animal introduces human-borne bacteria, oils, and pathogens.
☠️ Stress and Pain: Post-operative recovery should be quiet and sterile, not a photo op.
A real sanctuary puts welfare first. It provides proper recovery. It is about retirement, not risking animals' lives for ticket sales. Zippy, the other dolphins and all animals deserve exactly that. Space to heal, rest and live without being used for "entertainment”.
