A year ago, very few people could have looked at the Derby and said, with any confidence, that a son of World Premiere would win it. But a Northern Farm horse winning the Derby? That, anyone could have imagined. And Sugiyama, one of the finest trainers in JRA, winning the Derby? Plenty of people must have felt that day would come. In the end, this was not some miracle that fell out of the sky. A first-class farm and a first-class stable won the Derby. People matter. That is the cruel part of bloodlines. If a pedigree does not come with a reputation, it is much harder for the horse to meet the right people. The right farm. The right trainer. The right rider. The right hands at the right time. And that is why I still think there are many bloodlines in Japan that are being badly undervalued. Data is never pure in this sport. It is bent by the human factor. A fashionable stallion gets better mares, better farms, better trainers, better opportunities. A cheap stallion may be judged as inferior before he ever gets the same stage. So when people say there is a huge gap between expensive sires and inexpensive but genuinely talented ones, I am not so sure. The gap may exist. But I do not think it is always as wide as the market says it is. The problem is opportunity. To be placed with a top trainer, a horse usually needs to carry a fashionable sire’s name. But once that wall is broken, once the horse gets into the right hands, dreams become possible. After the HOPEFUL STAKES, LOVCEN’s pedigree suddenly looks beautiful. That is how racing works sometimes. Victory changes the way blood is read. Mares from bloodlines that worked well with Deep Impact do not always produce the same result when bred to Deep Impact’s sons. With sires like Kizuna, for example, the balance can shift more toward dirt. They are Deep Impact’s sons, yes, but they are not Deep Impact himself. World Premiere is different. Through his female family, he carries German blood, including Acatenango. That makes him unlike most of the other Deep Impact-line stallions. There is a different weight there, a different foundation. Sunday Silence’s own female family was a work of genius in bloodline architecture. And the place where that genius most naturally reveals itself may be over distance. It makes perfect sense, then, that Sunday Silence’s greatest heir was Deep Impact, born from Wind in Her Hair. I will leave the deeper connections aside, but the current feels unmistakable. And perhaps, within that same current, it should not have been so shocking that World Premiere might become the finest sire-son Deep Impact has produced. People often say speed is everything in a stallion. And they are right. A slow stayer is useless as a sire. But the mistake is assuming that winning the Tenno Sho Spring means a horse is slow. In JRA, with its fast turf and with the genius of Sunday Silence woven so deeply into the breed, races like the Tenno Sho Spring and the Kikuka Sho have become something more than tests of stamina.

i think the only downside to having an uma icon is that when you tweet about horseracing it gives off a certain energy. i'm not saying being a newbie is a bad thing, but it's kinda annoying to know being a kaigai uma fan will ger me put in the 初心者🔰 box immediately

Lovcen is very synonymous with the number four that it's pretty uncanny how it's genuinely haunting him. Born in April (4th month) Gate number for 3 of his 5 races: Gate 4 pos at bends for Kyodo: 4-4-4 2nd place finisher for every race after debut is always the 4th favourite
