Stop taking advice from people who've never built anything. If they haven't put something on the line, their opinion on your risk isn't worth hearing. The people who judge the attempt are never the ones making one.

When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.

@mark_collins09 @sethbannon It's not arrogance. When you live next to a superpower, you’re constantly compared to it, so you define yourself against it. I think you need to expand your social circle, Mark.

What are you even talking about? I'm 36. Born in 1990. In that entire span of time, almost every Canadian I've talked to has had a negative opinion of the US and a significant superiority complex. Even when Obama got elected and people were excited about it, the attitude in Canada was "we're still better than the US because...reasons". The only difference between now and then is that it's more openly talked about. But the attitude is the same.

@briangarrett There's a propaganda machine working to get Americans to hate Canadians. Or create some scary socialist narrative. It's gotten even worse in the last year. I'll let you draw your own conclusions why. We are not a perfect country, but I feel very lucky to be Canadian.

Canada has been a blast so far 👍 I don’t really understand why the country gets so much hate 🤔 After actually coming here and seeing Montreal, Toronto and Niagara Falls it’s a beautiful place with friendly helpful people, great food and lots of amazing views 🌁

@tdhross @NVanCaroline My point is credibility of the messenger matters. Are these people turned off just keyboard warriors or actual voters? I guess time will tell.

The oldest trueism in Canadian politics is to govern from the centre and build a big tent. If you're pulling in Marilyn Gladu on the one hand and Lori Idlout on the other, you are putting that maxim into full effect. What a year in federal politics it's been for Mark Carney.

Carney is a baller. I don’t love floor crossings, but pulling in more experienced conservative voices to help reset Canada and get building is a smart move right now.

@jedgar @MarkJCarney I’d settle for trains that actually run. I travelled Kitchener → Montreal on Saturday and the first leg was a bus, adding 2–3 uncomfortable hours. Hard to even get to the point of working productively on the train when basic reliability isn’t there.

@MarkJCarney big bro can you magic up some American style executive order to force VIA and Metrolinx to put high quality working satellite internet on the trains? Personally, I don't even need TOR<>MTL to be high speed rail if I can actually work from it, same with TOR<>Waterloo, but currently it's not actually possible to use the train as a working office, and frankly, that's a travesty. There are all these little productivity situations buried around that slow things down, every day things are slow is a day the GDP flattens.

@zandertoo @build_canada @brendan_samek Kudos, Brendan! Question, I was trying to get an AI assistant to view a commitment to learn more and it got blocked by an egress proxy. Is that intentional or do you want to make it more open for AI to read public pages?

@HassanRIsmail It’s not taboo. Founders are always working, regardless of geography. What you’re describing is more hustle culture, and a lot of it can be performative. If you want that builder energy, it just takes a bit more intention since it doesn’t all happen in coworking spaces here.

a very interesting and telling phenomena: people do not work weekends in toronto. It is basically a taboo. contrast this with SF or NYC; where offices are almost always bustling; even late saturday nights. I tend towards the latter; so I always feel out of place here.
