Last night, Russian forces carried out a large-scale attack on multiple regions of Ukraine with over 370 drones and 21 missiles. Russia continues its deliberate strategy to freeze Ukrainians, with one more night of attacks on energy infrastructure. Kyiv and the surrounding region were hit, along with Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv. There are dead and injured. In Kharkiv, civilian sites were targeted, including a maternity hospital, housing for internally displaced people, a medical college, and residential buildings. Dozens of civilians were injured, among them a child. In Kyiv and the region, the primary targets were energy facilities. One person was killed as a result of the attack. My deepest condolences go to their family. Emergency response teams are working continuously at all impact sites. Rescuers, doctors, municipal services, energy workers, and repair crews are restoring services and addressing the damage under difficult conditions. I am grateful to everyone involved, as well as to our air defense personnel who intercepted a large portion of the attack. Each wave of Russian strikes against our energy system reinforces a simple reality: delays in strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses cost lives. These attacks cannot be normalized or ignored. We are counting on decisive support from our partners, particularly in the delivery of air defense systems and interceptors. Every missile supplied for Patriot, NASAMS, and other systems directly protects critical infrastructure and helps civilians endure the winter.

America is grateful for every nation that answered the call after we were attacked on 9/11 and served with our forces on the frontlines in Afghanistan. Their sacrifices should never be forgotten.
