Joint No1 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “Blitz, One Family’s War” by @Martin_Impey. It is a truly stunning story of the impact the war had on one family and on the city of London. It’s a masterclass of bringing history to vivid life. Astounding stuff. #Picturebookpage

Joint No. 1 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “The Iguanadon’s Horn” by @SeanCRubin. It is a truly brilliant exploration of changing understanding. It creates a picture of how in science, art and imagination are part of the process to finding answers. Exceptional #PicturebookPage

No 2 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “Two Together” by @BRENDAN_WENZEL. It is a truly joyous book about, perspectives, adventures and love. The art is simply stunning with clever use of art styles that makes the characterisation adding to the story-telling #PicturebookPage

No 3 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “The Table” by @wbny,@ArmyVet5 and #JasonGriffin. It tells the story of two families and a table. The storytelling is subtle and stunning, allowing us into the lives, worries and relationships of the families. #PicturebookPage

No 4 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “Don’t think of Tigers” by @almaxlat. It is brilliantly silly, it feels like a magic trick. It’s the book which had the best readaloud response (page turn gasps and laughs) it’s also a book about keeping trying. Fab! #PicturebookPage

Now for my top 5 #FavePicturebooks24, at 5 is… “Tove and the Island with No Address” by @lauren_soloy. It’s the book that has the most enormous sense of the joy and mischievousness of childhood. Full of wildness and adventure but wrapped in the safety of a hug. #PicturebookPage

No 6 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “The Elephant and the Sea” by @ed_vere. It is a truly lovely story of resolve, dreams and courage. Its Cornish setting is vivid and beautiful and the story is full of joy and warmth. A true hug of a book. #PicturebookPage

No 7 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “The Last Zookeeper” by @storybreathing. The visual storytelling in this book is utterly extraordinary, it’s rich in pathos and emotion without a single word. A modern day Noah’s Ark. A Magical #WordlessWonder. #PicturebookPage

No 8 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “One Button and the Sea” by #SaraStanley and #VivianeSchwartz. A beautiful, powerful and thoughtful book that explores stories. The story of their “uprooting” becomes a tale of shared memory and community. A beautiful tale. #PicturebookPage

No 9 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “The Spaceman” by #RandyCecil. It is a delightful tale of a tiny space visitor. The characterisation and storytelling is wonderful. The facial expressions are perfect. The story is a hug that leaves us on delicious dilemma #PicturebookPage

No 10 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “Evidence!” by @Deborahopkinson and #NikHenderson. It follows Dr Jon Snow on a race against time to find the source of a cholera outbreak. It’s a fab detective story about the importance of Science and Evidence . #PicturebookPage

No 11 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “Flap Your Hands” by @steveasbell. As a headteacher of a school with a range of neurodiverse pupils, I love this inclusive book that normalises and destigmatises stimming. Visually beautiful and truly liberating. It’s a joy. #PicturebookPage

No 12 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “There Was a Shadow” by @henryfingjames and @lisk_feng is fantastic exploration of shadow play. It takes us through a whole day, shadows changing. It is in turns profound and playful and stunningly illustrated throughout. #PicturebookPage

No 13 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “Into the Goblin Market” by @vickivansickle and @WhoIsJensine. It is a brilliant fairytale full of courage and love , the art has a classic feel and while riffing on Rosetti this has a truly modern feel. Wonderful stuff #PicturebookPage

No 15 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is the first one I shared… Desert Queen” by @JyotiGopal and #SavbhuKohli.Based on the real story of Queen Harish who to support his family after the loss of his parents performed in drag. It’s powerful, emotional and wonderful. #PicturebookPage

No 16 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “I Hate Love Books” by @Ilustrajo. It is a wonderful tribute to the power of books to take us somewhere else without even leaving our settee. It’s joyful, playful, funny and captures the feeling of getting lost in a book #PicturebookPage

No 17 in my #FavePicturebooks24 is… “Life After Whale” by @LynnBrunelle and illustrated by #JasonChin is a brilliant exploration of what happens to its body after it dies. Full of detail it’s a wondrous look at the cycle of life. Stunning visceral art too. #PicturebookPage
