Nine years and seven championships later, we’ve achieved what many thought impossible in college hockey. We fought hard until the very end. To all the supporters of AIC hockey, we are incredibly grateful. To my amazing wife and family, what a journey it has been. I wouldn’t have traded it for anything in the world. To our dedicated alumni, your belief in our program has been unwavering, supporting us from day one to that final puck drop. To my incredible assistant coaches, your commitment helped to build this success. I am forever indebted to you; no one has ever accomplished so much with so little. To my players, I love each and every one of you. I look forward to celebrating weddings, becoming a dad, and life’s journey alongside you. Coach Wright, I hope we made you proud of the program. To my alma mater, thank you for the opportunity and your faith in me. I will always be a Yellowjacket. LFG 🐝😢

This is a punch in the gut for college hockey. The AIC rags-to-riches story was among the best in college hockey over the last decade. The program was a perennial afterthought and became a top program in the AHA.

BREAKING: AIC will drop its hockey program back to Division II at the end of the season, per sources. AIC players and staff were informed today. Was told the reason was "budgetary, and the changing landscape of the NCAA." More to follow.

I just got off a call with an advisor's group of players. The message was on resilience and being where your feet are, especially during this time of year when roles are being doled out, commitments are being made, and the pecking order is shaping up on a roster. And for all the kids out there, I'm gonna say this as bluntly as possible: Do NOT be an excuse maker. I have no time, and coaches at the higher levels have no time, for kids that make excuses. Kids who make excuses put all their focus on things they can't control and blame others for where they are - when in reality - they are much more in control of their playing time, role, and development than they think. Their play, their attitude, their work ethic...that determines the coach's trust in you. It's not the other way around. Too many kids feel like their coach's trust is the determiner of their play. Nope. The things YOU control are the determiners of your play. One thing that came up was how CHL players are being thrown into the recruiting pool and how that was going to make it harder to play D1 hockey. Well, you can use that as an excuse...or you can use that as motivation to say "You know what, I'm going to have to work that much harder then to accomplish the dream. It's gonna make me better" I'm 5'4". I never used that as an excuse for any of my dreams that didn't turn into reality. Being 5'4" brought me CLOSER to my dreams because I didn't use it as an excuse and used it as motivation to know I HAD TO work that much harder than everyone just to be even. And you know what... I know kids that came from awful upbringings that achieved their dreams. Came from no money and achieved their dreams. Battled career threatening injuries that achieved their dreams. Battled mental or physical abuse and achieved their dreams. Having a little bit extra competition in the talent pool ain't an excuse. Have some perspective. What's more important...the things that happen to us or the way we choose to RESPOND to the things that happen to us?? If you're unhappy with the role you're playing right now? Go PROVE to the coach that it should be your role by asking him what you need to do to EARN it and then you better be the first person on the ice and the last person off every day. If there's a player you think you are better than that's committed and you aren't? Stop comparing yourself to others and focus on the things that you can control like being the hardest working player and most positive teammate on your team. Life's not fair. It's not fair for everyone in some capacity. Everyone has their problems, their challenges, their setbacks. If you use those challenges as excuses to make yourself feel better because you really don't want to put in the work through the adversity...eventually you'll regret it. Because you took the easy way out. But if you use those challenges as internal motivation and understand that yeah maybe this isn't the ideal situation but I'm gonna work my way out of it and come out stronger on the other side...you'll be a champion and give yourself a much greater opportunity to achieve your dream. I've had it with people who make excuses. Life isn't fair. But in reality, that's the beauty of it. When it's not fair is when your character is revealed and it's really an opportunity in disguise to make yourself stronger and more unstoppable than you were before.
