Those are orthogonal concepts. - World models trained on highly diverse data become foundation models: their encoders can be used for a wide variety of downstream tasks. - "World" refers to two things: (1) predicting the evolution of a complex system or environment, (2) predicting the evolution of a system under control and its effect on the environment (action-conditioned world model) which is a necessary component of planning.

I was a bit hesitant about showing stuff like this just a month ago 😅 When we started showcasing real-time AI + SDF sculpting, I was afraid professionals would laugh if I showed no effort on the input models. The shape strength slider was also hidden in our first iteration, so I had no choice but to at least try and knock some more interesting shapes together. Now that we're starting to focus on more powerful features and shape strength is finally unlocked, I'm starting to appreciate just playing with simple shapes. Different stages of production have different needs. Sometimes you want full authoring over your creations, while other times you just want to quickly explore new ideas.

A 40-year-old patent has finally been brought to life. That's the Y-zipper. A 3D-printed three-sided fastener that transitions any object from flexible to rigid and back again. The robotics application is the one that caught my attention. A quadruped robot that adjusts its leg stiffness depending on terrain, switching between rigid and flexible in real time without additional motors or complex mechanical systems. But this goes way beyond robotics. A wrist cast that loosens during the day and stiffens at night. A tent that pops into shape in 90 seconds instead of six minutes.
