The group had warned that two doses “may add unnecessary risk” by increasing the likelihood of myocarditis. At the press conference Hipkins said: “When we make these decisions I want to be able to, hand on heart, say, look, this has been through a really robust approval process, it's safe, and all the evidence stacks up.” Ashley Bloomfield: “The advice from our technical advisory group was also very clear that they felt that for 16 - and 17 - year-olds the evidence was supported, but not routinely offering it to 12- to 15-year-olds.” The fact that both Hipkins and Bloomfield continued to actively promote a multi-dose approach for teenagers — despite both knowing the advisory group had already warned that two doses may add unnecessary risk of myocarditis and they kept this information from parents, is simply indefensible.
