This is what brainless short sighted idiocy, with which this @NZNationalParty govt is so abundantly endowed, looks like. Why save a fortune in future costs, and misery and loss of life and livelihood, when you can raid the kitty now to blow on tax cuts bribes and paying out your donors. What happened to the climate resilience fund? They looted it cover the tax payers money they spent to buy their way into power, and have now crashed the recovery and bankrupted the country. #nzpol
John Hart@farmgeek

“International research shows that every $1 invested in risk reduction saves at least $4 in response and recovery” We had the ideal fund for projects like this - the $4.5 billion climate emergency response fund. But this govt wasted it on tax cuts. stuff.co.nz/nz-news/360932…

We are 100,000 employed people below where we expected to be in 2023. Why? Because unelected ghouls decided that NZ, almost uniquely, needed to crash their economy to fight inflation. Literal small man complex stuff. Shameful. (Ends)

Last year when I reported on business liquidations, it was sitting at the highest in 10 years. This week saw business liquidations recorded at the highest level for 15 years. i.e. the trajectory and pace of regression is significant here. mountaintui.substack.com/p/surprise-une… #nzpol #Kiwi

Lord Pocketsquare asset sales. Jarrod Bleijie's public property grab at Banyo for private development disregards asbestos & PFAS decontamination. Locals highlight the infrastructure requirements. There's no public housing component. Highest bidders will get the 400 units. #qldpol

The state government has defended its plan to sell off unused, public land to private developers. Angry residents in Banyo interrupted the deputy premier's press conference to protest the sale. @annamcgraw_7

How about the fact that NONE of the Government's Pasifika MP's are standing for re-election this year. NONE. Not even a single one. Journos aren't curious though, because there aren't any. NONE. Not even a single one.
David Farrar@dpfdpf

All is not well in Labour's caucus. Two Maori MPs have announced not they will retire at the election, but that they will leave Parliament in February. Neither have jobs to go to. Journalists should be curious as to why they would not stay on until the election.

Oh but these poor unicorns, they're so illiquid, they really can't pay! And taxing them even a tiny bit will cause all the wealth creators to leave – zero innovation, mass poverty! Surely only a crazy French economist could think we can tax them at all!
Americans For Tax Fairness@4TaxFairness

Palantir reported $1.5 billion in losses from 2020-2024. That allowed them to pay $0 in federal income taxes. So how did they spend $64 million on stock buybacks and pay their CEO $3.3 billion over roughly the same period? This tax code is a complete joke.

🚨UPDATE🚨 There are now 24 cities across the nation (so far) that are organising welcoming parties for the Israeli President Herzog. ▪️Herzog’s visit has spectacularly backfired in his face — and of those who invited him— by handing the Australian community an opportunity to raise their voices against the despicable acts of the country he represents. 👉 Of course, in Australia’s robust democracy all these peaceful community rallies are perfectly legal to attend. 👉👉 Herzog will no doubt be given the sort of warm welcome so befitting a man of his character.

Pretty telling that Cathy Wilcox has become a more effective political commentator with her powerful sketchings than most of her non-cartoonist colleagues who expend thousands more words every week but somehow manage to say very little or gutlessly avoid the issues altogether.
