On Thurs, RTE Morning Ireland with Sarah McInerney and an audience of 500,000 gave "Hope and Courage Collective" six minutes on their new opinion poll, left. The feature finding is 66% of people agree that "immigrants contribute to our culture and we're all the better for having them here", the text suggests that 34% disagree. Listen back here radio-ireland.com/podcasts/rte-m… But look at the Electoral Commission opinion poll on an analagous topic "Immigrants are good for Ireland's economy" in 2024. Notice anything? The "neither disagree nor agree" (18%) and "don't know" (4%) Exclude those two categories, and from the Electoral Commision poll, you get agree 67% (52/(52+26)) and disagree 33%. Almost identical to the HCC research in 2025. Why did HCC omit from its report the "neither agree nor disagree" and "don;t know"? Is it because just 51% or 50% or 49% agree with the statement, 27% disagree, 18% neither and 4% don't know. And they don't want to risk people saying "less than half agree" or "only half agree"? Whatever the reason, HCC self-evidently withheld those two categories of response. And RTE didn't challenge them on it. Nor did RTE ask about other immigration questions, like strict caps (large majority in favour), tougher rules and enforcement by Dept of Justice (large majority in favour). You'd expect better from Sarah McInerney.
