AI without memory is pattern detection. The most important memory in business doesn’t live in documents, dashboards, or databases. It lives in conversation. For the first time in 30 years, I’m watching conversations stop disappearing when they end. Something fundamental is changing. #AI #vCon #ConversationalAI #Telecom #VoiceAI

End of Spring ’26 vCon. People showed up. They spoke. They connected. For a long time, conversations disappeared. That’s changing. Memory matters. #vcon #VoiceIsBack

@BridgetMWillard Haha! That's great! Did you ever play Pokemon Go? That was another game I was into. @lorimcneeartist & I went to the @jeffpulver #140conf in LA 10 years ago, & afterward I found Pikachu in the UCLA botanical gardens. I was alone & wished someone was there to see it!

📞 Today in 1995 VocalTec launched the Internet Phone—and voice officially shifts from telco hardware to software. At the time, it felt like a science experiment. PCs as phones? Audio over dial-up? Skeptics were everywhere. But VocalTec proved something bigger than a new app: it showed that voice could be packetized, compressed, and run over IP rather than locked inside proprietary carrier switches. My first job was at Dialogic in 1992, right when programmable telephony boards were opening the network to developers for the first time. Suddenly, telecom wasn't just for operators: builders could experiment, automate, and rethink the very definition of a "call." VocalTec took that momentum and pushed it onto the open internet. Was it perfect? Not even close. Latency, echo, temperamental headsets—the works. But innovation rarely arrives polished. The real breakthrough was cultural: communication became software-driven, allowing it to evolve at internet speed for free. Voice remains the killer app, but it now lives inside a massive, intelligent communications stack. Voice agents and real-time transcription are transforming how we collaborate. CPaaS Brands are blending voice with SMS, WhatsApp, and video to orchestrate seamless customer journeys. We've moved beyond "making calls" to meeting customers wherever they are, powered by AI driven workflows. As I prepare for Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, it's clear the story is still being written. From WhatsApp voice notes to ultra-reliable HD voice on 5G, the spark VocalTec ignited continues to shape our world. I'm also looking forward to Enterprise Connect, where I'll be connecting with the next generation of innovators in CX and collaboration. From scratchy PC calls in the '90s to AI-powered conversations in 2026, one thing remains true: once voice became an application, the innovation curve never flattened. #MWC #MWC26 #EnterpriseConnect @enterprisecon @MWCapital @MWCHub @jeffpulver

Voice still matters. For decades, conversations disappeared when they ended. That assumption no longer holds. I wrote about what changes when voice becomes usable memory, and why it matters now. open.substack.com/pub/thejeffpul…

For years I felt like a 90s rock star playing the old hits. Yesterday at Cloud Connections I realized I finally have a new song climbing the Billboard 100. The name of the song is #vCon. Thanks Kevin Nethercott, Dag Peak, @JonBrinton for the great session.
