@ZahraJoya told the APPG that ‘the system of gender apartheid in #Afghanistan’ means that ‘being a woman has become a structural crime’. She called on the #UK Government to hold the #Taliban accountable: ‘in this chaotic moment, we should not turn a blind eye to these issues’.

A simple message with big meaning: "I am somebody." We are grateful to Rev. Jesse Jackson for helping teach generations of children to believe in themselves and in one another. Thank you for being part of our neighborhood. 💛💚

Today marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. But millions of Afghan women and girls still living under the Taliban aren't celebrating. It’s also been 1,607 days since girls over 12 were banned from school.

In #Afghanistan, we mark #WomenInScience day with sorrow: 1,607 days since girls over 12 were banned from school. Over four years of lost opportunity and a bleak future without women and girls in any critical sector. We reiterate our call on the DFA to reverse the ban.

The Taliban’s ban on all education for girls beyond 6th grade is just one piece of the broader destruction they have inflicted on the education system through actions like firing qualified teachers, removing secular subjects, etc. The harm to Afghanistan’s future grows every day.
UNICEF Afghanistan@UNICEFAfg

In #Afghanistan, education is at a breaking point. More than 90% of 10-year-olds cannot read a simple text, signaling a crisis of schooling without learning. Sustained investment in early learning, literacy and numeracy is essential to secure outcomes for every child. @UNESCOAfg

I spent yesterday in Korma with survivors of El Fasher atrocities. So many halting, harrowing conversations in Arabic, or translated from Zaghawa, about horror and misery. Then Haseena pushed through crowd. Speaking in perfect English, she wanted the world to hear her story.

Unspeakable suffering in Tawila. Over half of the fleeing survivors are children. One injured woman I met walked into the camp after surviving an attack, carrying her friend's starving child. They're asking the world if help is coming. wapo.st/47HBZa7
