On #ThisDayInHistory in 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the “Stars and Stripes” as the national flag. The flag was based on the “Grand Union” flag, a banner carried by the Continental Army in 1776 that also consisted of 13 red and white stripes. #FlagDay

In 1924 on #ThisDayInHistory, the Indian Citizenship Act, an all-inclusive act, was signed by President Calvin Coolidge. The privileges of citizenship, however, were largely governed by the state, and the right to vote was often denied to Native Americans as late as the 1940s.
