Today, I join Canadians in mourning the loss of Stephen Lewis — a pillar of compassionate leadership in Canadian democracy, and a renowned global champion for human rights and multilateralism. I am keeping his family, and all those whose lives he touched, in my thoughts. pm.gc.ca/en/news/statem…

𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦 is now open 🍁 This new exhibition invites you to see the Group of Seven a little differently—through the places they lived, worked, and loved right here in southern Ontario. From Kleinburg and Thornhill to Orillia and Lake Simcoe, these intimate paintings, drawings, and prints capture everyday landscapes, quiet streets, and familiar skies. A reminder that inspiration doesn’t always come from far away—sometimes it’s right in our own backyard. Learn more here → mcmichael.com/exhibition/clo… 1/ A.J. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gathie Falk, the remarkable multi-media artist who has left an indelible mark on the art of Canada. We were honoured to mount her retrospective at the McMichael in 2022 and will never forget her rampant creativity and her joyful affirmation of all that is beautiful in this world.

Jimmy Cliff’s music carried hope, resistance, and joy across generations. From « The Harder They Come » to « Many Rivers to Cross », he changed music, not only reggae forever. His songs will keep guiding us for many rivers to come. 🕊️💚💛❤️ Tracy and Jimmy never recorded a duet together, but they shared the stage for the final song, « One Love », at the “Bob Marley All-Star Tribute” in Jamaica in 1999. 🎨✨ On this day in 1877, Tom Thomson was born—an artist whose legacy continues to shape Canadian art. Though his career was brief, Thomson created more than 400 vibrant sketches and around 50 finished canvases, capturing the raw beauty and spirit of the wilderness like no one else. As fellow artist Arthur Lismer once said, Thomson “sought the wilderness, never seeking to tame it, but only to draw from it, its magic of tangle and season.” Today, we honour the man behind the myth—and the landscapes that still take our breath away. 🌲🖌️ #TomThomson #CanadianArt #GroupOfSeven #ArtHistory 1/ Tom Thomson, 𝘚𝘶𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘵, 1915, oil on board, 21.3 x 26.7 cm, Gift of the Founders, Robert and Signe McMichael, 1966.16.69 2/ Tom Thomson, 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴, 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘬𝘦, 1916, oil on wood panel, 21.4 x 26.2 cm, Gift of the Founders, Robert and Signe McMichael, 1966.16.73 3/ Tom Thomson, 𝘗𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘸𝘢 𝘎𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘴, 1916, oil on wood panel, 21.4 x 26.5 cm, Purchased with funds donated by Major F.A.
