Teaching has what I’d call a strategy problem. We’ve been trained, often repeatedly in professional development, to rely on strategies, complete with catchy names and acronyms. It creates a sense that good teaching is a recipe: follow these steps, apply this strategy, and learning will happen.
But evidence-informed teaching, grounded in the science of how we learn, doesn’t really work that way. Take Rosenshine’s principles as a strong example of effective teaching: teach new material in small steps, ask questions, check for understanding, scaffold challenging tasks, provide guided and independent practice, review material daily, weekly, and monthly, model thinking, and obtain high success rates.
These aren’t strategies to be followed in a rigid sequence. And that matters, because many teachers have become so saturated with “strategy teaching” that anything framed as another strategy can feel overwhelming or even off-putting. On the other hand, some won’t buy into an idea at all unless it’s packaged as a clear set of strategies.
In reality, we may be overcomplicating good teaching. It’s less about adopting the right strategy and more about refining a set of effective techniques. The key question shifts from “What strategy should I use?” to something more practical and flexible: What technique will I use for daily review? What technique will I use to present new material in small steps?
This shift keeps the focus on how learning actually happens, rather than on trying to implement the next new strategy.

One of the governments with a record of beating women to death for not covering their hair in public, has been nominated to a committee responsible for policy on women’s rights.
One of the governments with a record of executing their citizens for questioning the government, has been nominated to a committee responsible for policy on human rights.
One of the governments with a record of refusing to stop illegally developing nuclear weapons, has been nominated to a committee responsible for policy on disarmament.
One of the governments with a record of terrorism snd financing and directing terror proxies, has been nominated to a committee responsible for policy on counterterrorism.
And Australia, Canada, the UK and many of the EU countries support this.
Are they naive?
Complicit?
Afraid to offend?
One thing they definitely are, is fucked.

Engaged students who still aren't learning — that's the ‘Engagement Myth’, one of the most familiar poor proxies for learning.

Have you noticed a pattern?
France, UK, Australia and Canada all simultaneously recognize Palestine at exactly the same time.
France, UK, Australia and Canada all simultaneously demand a ceasefire with Hamas.
France, UK, Australia and Canada all simultaneously demand a ceasefire with Iran.
France, UK, Australia and Canada all simultaneously demand a two state solution.
France, UK, Australia and Canada all simultaneously consistently condemn any action taken by Israel to defend itself.
France, UK, Australia and Canada all simultaneously refuse to help the US in the Strait of Hormuz.
France, UK, Australia and Canada all simultaneously call for Lebanon to be part of this ceasefire.
Time after time after time, France, UK, Australia and Canada all simultaneously stand with terrorists and against the west.

Interesting contrast.
Two weeks ago, US law enforcement exposed an Iranian plot to assassinate Ghamari.
This week, Canadian law enforcement threatens Ghamari for saying mean things about the Iranian regime.

I had a call with @OttawaPolice today. I was told if I don't delete my X posts where I say Mosques in Occupied Iran are hubs of terrorism and should be bombed, I would be charged under the Criminal Code of Canada. So I deleted my posts. Meanwhile, Mosques in Occupied Iran:
