No it didn’t. Illegal migrants used to come in large numbers as stowaways on trucks etc. But tech advances such as screening made that much more detectable. So they took to boats. How many times do I have to explain this?
Gilby@Gilby54321

@afneil But the deterrent helped keep the numbers down. Or do you have another explanation as to why the numbers and methods of crossing suddenly changed ?

WE WON! Right of abode restored for the Chagossians. The Court has ruled they can remain on their islands. After decades of injustice, everything has changed. Immense credit to KC Philip Rule and Barrister James Tumbridge. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. 🇮🇴🇬🇧

I have to seriously question the sanity of anyone who seriously thinks that our economy, security, healthcare, energy, foreign policy & diplomacy, or even the flower bed on the middle of the local roundabout could or should be governed by these two.

#Brexit Except the evidence has been widely contested, by anyone who actually understands the ridiculous economics, of the claims that we’d have grown 8% of GDP whilst within the EU. You’re going to have to do better than that to justify the £15Bn loss of Dynamic alignment on Agriculture & the £40Bn loss of potentially rejoining the Customs Union!
Resolution Foundation@resfoundation

Brexit has likely done more economic damage than feared. Recent evidence suggests the economic cost of Brexit may be approaching twice the 4% impact assumed by the OBR. The Chancellor has signalled a shift in approach to EU trade, but the effect will depend on how far the govt goes on alignement.

If number 10 remotely wiped McSweeney’s phone, this confirms it had the standard government configuration on it, this configuration includes backups. Plus, WhatsApp accounts can be accessed on the new phone, the messages are stored on servers, not the phone.

🚨 BREAKING: DEFENCE SECRETARY MELTDOWN: HEALEY SHOULD RESIGN NOW This wasn’t an interview… it was a collapse in real time. Stumbling. Repeating himself. Unable to answer basic questions about the fleet he’s supposed to command. “How many ships do we have?” A simple question. And the man responsible for Britain’s defence… couldn’t even answer it cleanly. 17 vessels on paper — but where are they? One deployed. The rest? “Some being repaired.” That’s not reassurance. That’s admission of failure. At a time of rising global tensions, threats in the Middle East, and pressure on NATO… This is the man in charge? Britain is not being led. It is being exposed. This wasn’t just embarrassing — it was dangerous. For the safety of the country, John Healey should resign immediately. Watch the interview and judge for yourself

@RejoinP Just for those who aren't up to speed with what these utter nutjobs are selling. The little picture of a unicorn is what these people who want to be taken remotely seriously are saying would've happened, compared to what actually happened with France and Germany still in the EU

Now this absolutely lying, duplicitous, arrogant son of a bitch knows how we all feel. @Keir_Starmer was never going to last the pace. I predicted it before anyone else. Now mate - just give up. You’ve lost. It’s over…

🚨And there you have it. Lindsay Hoyle misled the house by omitting the fact that he has the power to pause proceedings and ask the prime minister to answer the question. He was quite happy to do this with Boris, but he REFUSES to do it with Keir Starmer. Absolute disgrace.
Lee Harris@LeeHarris

🚨Father of the House Sir Edward Leigh raises a point of order about Keir Starmer NEVER answering questions at PMQs. Lindsay Hoyle says there is nothing he can do. NONSENSE! He can pause proceedings and ask Keir Starmer to answer, but he *never* does. ABSOLUTELY USELESS!

On Sunday, Labour’s Steve Reed claimed that the “theft” of Morgan McSweeney’s phone happened months or “even a year” BEFORE Mandelson’s sacking. We now know this is false. Are Labour frontbench ministers actively participating in the McSweeney-Mandelson cover-up?

In 2021, the same Speaker did tell Boris Johnson twice during #PMQs, to answer questions. So he can do something about it.
Chris Rose@ArchRose90

After #PMQs Tory MP Sir Edward Leigh MP raised a Point of Order on Keir Starmer dodging EVERY question EVERY week. The Speaker says that he cannot do anything about it. It has become utterly points to watch. I don’t blame the Reform MPs for walking out. It’s so pointless now.

In 2021, the Speaker told Boris Johnson TWICE to answer questions at PMQs that’s right TWICE! So the Speaker does step in and force the Prime Minister to answer questions it just depends if he wants too, how Strange 🤷‍♂️ Now we’re told “nothing can be done.” So which is it?

Anyone reading the transcript will conclude McSweeney deliberately obfuscated, lied about location, avoided mentioning Downing Street, and failed to say there was sensitive information on the phone. The British public are being had by Starmer and Labour. thesun.co.uk/news/38627793/…

EXCLUSIVE: I’ve spoken to MPs, Labour Party whistleblowers, and a former frontbencher with DIRECT knowledge of Morgan McSweeney. We are now witnessing the start of a blatant government cover-up. Is McSweeney lying about the “stolen” phone? Here’s what we know so far:🧵
