THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT WALKING
Walking 10 minutes after eating can cut blood sugar spikes by 22%.
3,800 steps a day is enough to start reducing the risk of early death.
Walking outside vs. treadmill burns more calories because of terrain and wind resistance.
Your brain releases endorphins after just 10 minutes of walking.
Walking too fast doesn’t let your body burn fat efficiently — slow down to slim down.
Walking barefoot on grass reduces cortisol and inflammation.
10,000 steps was a marketing number from the 1960s — not based on science.
Walking backwards strengthens different muscles and improves balance.
A 15-minute walk boosts creativity by up to 60% according to Stanford research.
Walking after dinner is more beneficial than walking before breakfast.
People who walk with others stick with it 3x longer than solo walkers.

My daughter Maya is seven. For the last three weeks, she’s been going to school with her books carried in a plastic grocery bag. Her zipper broke on her backpack, and as a single mom working retail, an extra $30 for a new bag just wasn't in the cards this month. Rent comes first. Food comes second.
Every morning, I walk her to the bus stop, feeling that heavy, suffocating knot of mom-guilt. I hated seeing the other kids with their shiny new character backpacks while my girl hugged a crinkled plastic bag to her chest.
This morning, the big yellow bus pulled up with a screech of brakes. The doors swung open.
Mr. Gary, the driver who’s been running this route for fifteen years, was sitting there in his usual flannel shirt. But today, he stepped down onto the bottom stair.
"Hey Maya," he smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I think you left something on the bus yesterday."
He reached behind his seat and pulled out a brand-new, sparkly unicorn backpack. It even had a matching lunchbox clipped to the front.
Maya gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. "That's not mine, Mr. Gary!"
"Well, it's got a tag on it that says Maya," he said, winking at me. "Must be yours. Hop on, kiddo."
Maya grabbed it, hugging it so tight, and ran to her seat.
I stood there on the curb, frozen. Tears immediately blurred my vision. I looked up at Mr. Gary and mouthed the words, Thank you.
He just tipped his baseball cap, gave me a gentle nod, and pulled the lever to close the doors.
Sometimes the people who drive us forward are the ones who make sure we don't feel left behind.

Boss: “You’re 10 minutes late.”
Employee: “I stayed an hour late yesterday to finish your ‘urgent’ work.”
Boss: “That’s appreciated… but rules are rules.”
Employee: “Got it.”
Next day.
9.00 a.m. - logged in exactly on time.
5.00 p.m. - system shut down exactly on time.
No “just one last task.”
No “quick call.”
No “it’ll only take 5 minutes.”
Boss: “Can you stay a bit longer today?”
Employee: “I would… but rules are rules.”
