Former Baltimore police sergeant Wayne Jenkins, the convicted ringleader of the Gun Trace Task Force corruption scandal, is asking for early release from federal prison. As our Mike Hellgren reports, Jenkins is serving a 25 year sentence for crimes that included planting evidence, robbing citizens and stealing drugs. In a letter to a federal judge, he says he cooperated with investigators for years but received no benefit in return. He also claims he has been attacked in prison and is seeking a reduced sentence based on that cooperation. A judge has set a June 3 deadline for federal prosecutors to respond to his request. A big honor for a Baltimore educator. Band director and music teacher Dr. Otis Eldridge has been named Baltimore City Public Schools’ 2026 Teacher of the Year. Dr. Eldridge teaches at Hamilton Elementary/Middle School and is a proud graduate of Baltimore City Public Schools. A three-time graduate of Morgan State University, he has spent more than a decade inspiring students through music education and arts integration.
