The science is clear: trees cool cities, stabilise ecosystems, save lives. Yet, across India, amid record-breaking heat that is about to get worse, millions of trees are being removed, turning a climate crisis into a public health emergency, writes @iyerkavi article-14.com/post/amid-a-re…

Over the weekend, 95 of the world’s 100 #hottest cities were in India. At the same time, tens of thousands of trees are being cleared—for highways, metros, ports & “beautification” projects. @iyerkavi on the govt’s war on India’s trees article-14.com/post/amid-a-re…

A single project linking the Ken & Betwa rivers will submerge 4,000+ hectares of forest & cost an estimated 2.3 million trees inside a tiger reserve. This is how India is building in a warming world, writes @iyerkavi article-14.com/post/amid-a-re…

India is currently the hottest large region on Earth by a huge margin with 95 of the world’s 100 warmest cities right now. Large parts of northern and eastern India are experiencing extreme heat much earlier than usual, with dozens of cities in the 43–47°C range while most of the rest of the world is far cooler.

In 2025 alone, solar, wind, EVs and heat pumps erased 800m tons of coal demand, more than the entire coal use of India. It also wiped out 260 billion cubic meters of gas, nearly half the global LNG market Clean tech is gutting fossil fuel demand, and we're just getting started

Excellent day to make that statement given that we just published a report TODAY showing renewables overtook coal power in 2025 for the first time in over 100 years. The share of coal power has been consistently falling for over a decade now and will continue to do so.

You wouldn't know it if you live in the USA or consume US media and politics, but the fight between EVs and ICEs is basically over. Internal combustion is on it's way out. First it'll look slow, then fast. Fleet turnover will lag sales. But ALL the growth globally is in EVs. If your company isn't competitive in building EVs and can only build internal combustion, you're going to be stuck serving an ever-smaller share of a shrinking global market over the next decade...
Assaad Razzouk@AssaadRazzouk

New IEA data: EV sales in emerging markets surge 80% in 2025 >India: EVs up 75% to record 2.3m EV units sold >Indonesia: 125% increase >Viet Nam: EVs hit staggering 40% share of new car sales >Thailand: EV share of new sales hit 21% >Latin America: Region saw 70% annual growth >Mexico: Sales tripled >Brazil: Sales up 40% >Ecuador and Uruguay: Experienced massive jumps of 240% and 140% The "EVs are only for rich countries and China" bullshit is officially over

actually Bangalore lost its cool no matter what the weather folks say... The daytime max barely moved since the 1980s. But it's hotter than 30C for MUCH longer Heat stress lasts longer: used to get cooler by 4:27 PM → now HOT till 5:54 PM The night used to cool down below 22°C and we used to recover — now hours per night under 22°C — shrank from 3½ hours to 48 minutes! No wonder I'm cranky and exhausted in the mornings! 40 years of ERA5 hourly data → prasannais.com/is-bangalore-h…

In just over a decade, Chile went from no utility-scale wind or solar at all to having more electricity from these sources than from all fossil fuels combined: 2000: wind+solar provided 0% of Chile's electricity, fossil fuels 45% 2025: wind+solar 36%, fossil fuels 28%.

This would be a two or three week news story in a previous administration, and might even lead to the resignation of the defense secretary. He literally fabricated a Biblical quote, based off of a movie, while pretending to be a pious Christian. But under Trump, we’ll have moved on by tomorrow.
Mario Nawfal@MarioNawfal

🇺🇸 Hegseth recited “Ezekiel 25:17” speech at a Pentagon church service. But here’s the problem: it’s not actually from the Bible, but from Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. He even tweaked the ending to reference a military rescue unit. Who do you think pulled it off better? Hegseth or Samuel L. Jackson?

New from me: No increase in global coal power generation after Hormuz closure - solar and wind growth covered the fall in gas-fired generation. The record buildout of clean energy in 2025 helped mitigate the impact of the Hormuz closure.

🌐 NEW | Analysis: Global fossil power generation fell in March after Hormuz closure due to solar & wind growth ⚠️ Fall in gas-fired generation offset by large increases in solar & wind power, not coal w/CREA's @laurimyllyvirta energyandcleanair.org/fossil-power-f…
