Until now, Cordova was treated as a legacy build target in Meteor. That meant mobile apps missed out on modern syntax benefits like ES modules and tree shaking. With the new modern flag in Meteor 3.4, mobile architectures get the same optimizations as web.

Meteor 3.4 introduces new bundler optimizations for Atmosphere packages: the devOnly and npmDevDependencies options in package.js let you strip entire packages and their npm dependencies from production builds. After applying this to @cloudbygalaxy, we cut the production bundle size by roughly 42%. Watch the full conversation: youtube.com/watch?v=drdxkR…

We sat down with @AmanVirk1, the creator of AdonisJS and it's one of our favorite conversations on the show. We talked about what motivated him to build a full-stack Node.js framework from scratch, what it's like to maintain it alone for over 10 years, and where AdonisJS is heading next. Link below 👇

Cordova builds were previously treated as legacy in Meteor, meaning all generated code went through legacy transpilation. With the modern flag now enabled, mobile apps can benefit from Rspack and SWC, and npm dependencies that require modern syntax will finally work without complaints.
