@GiveDirectly has sent $1 billion in cash directly to people in extreme poverty. Their model has no middle man and study after study shows it works. Any billionaire could call them tomorrow and help pull an entire country out of poverty. For some, it would cost about a year in the stock market. I’m honestly baffled: why is there not a single billionaire who just makes the call to @NickAllardice, GiveDirectly’s CEO? Instead, they fund vanity projects and call it philanthropy. The solutions exist but the ambition is pointed in the wrong direction.

When Labour claim to be the party of workers, remember that they have spent over £33.4 million so that they could cut workers’ pay by £8,000, potentially saving them no more than £1.2 million. This is cruelty for the sake of it targeted directly at the working class.

The New Yorker article about Sam Altman has SO many insane anecdotes. Take this one: "As the technology became increasingly powerful, we learned, about a dozen of OpenAI’s top engineers held a series of secret meetings to discuss whether OpenAI’s founders, including Brockman and Altman, could be trusted. At one, an employee was reminded of a sketch by the British comedy duo Mitchell and Webb, in which a Nazi soldier on the Eastern Front, in a moment of clarity, asks, “Are we the baddies?” It's incomprehensible to me how anyone with good - or even normal - ethics can still work there. How many warning signs do these people need before they realize that yes, they ARE working for the baddies?
