There’s been a Raisina Dialogue in Delhi every March since 2016. It’s the brainchild of Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Narendra Modi’s long-serving foreign minister. Like other global gatherings, it brings together political leaders, senior military commanders, prominent business people, leading journalists, and think tank chiefs to discuss key issues; but it’s better than Davos because it’s not so dominated by politically correct plutocrats; and better than the longer-running Chinese Boao Forum, because it not essentially an exercise in homage to the host government. I started attending virtually, during the pandemic, and have been there in person since 2022. Had a conversation with Iranian President, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, to discuss the serious situation in the region. Expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions and the loss of civilian lives as well as damage to civilian infrastructure. The safety and security of Indian nationals, along with the need for unhindered transit of goods and energy, remain India’s top priorities. On the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit, had an excellent meeting with Mr. Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation. We reviewed the full range of India-Switzerland relations, especially ways to boost linkages in education, technology and talent mobility. 2026 began on an exceptional note for India-Europe relations with the signing of the historic Free Trade Agreement.
