The conflict has been partially fueled by the military involvement of competing foreign powers, including Russia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the UAE, in pursuit of strategic influence and access to Sudan’s gold, fertile land, and other natural resources. The SAF, the RSF, and their allies stand accused of atrocities against civilians, including airstrikes, shelling, and drone attacks targeting medical facilities and food markets in populated areas, extrajudicial killings, and torture.
