Amal Khalil was alive for hours. She phoned her family and the Lebanese military for help. People followed in horror as her colleagues updated the world on what was happening. And yet Israel blocked the Red Cross from reaching her for seven hours. That is stone cold murder.

Seemingly, we are overqualified for this. They didn’t understand our references to Jane Austen, Harold Pinter, Franz Kafka, Walt Whitman, René Magritte, etc. But our martyred leader has taught us to read books all the time; we do not lower our standards. They need to level up.

🔵 Haaretz: Israeli soldiers looting homes across southern Lebanon on a “crazy scale,” soldiers and commanders stationed inside Lebanon told the outlet. “According to the testimonies, as IDF soldiers leave Lebanon, they load stolen items onto their vehicles openly, without attempting to conceal them. ‘It’s on a crazy scale,’ one soldier said. ‘Anyone who takes something – televisions, cigarettes, tools, whatever – immediately puts it in their vehicle or leaves it off to the side, not inside the army base, but it’s not hidden. Everyone sees it and understands.’” Witnesses described troops taking motorcycles, televisions, tools, paintings, sofas, and rugs—often in full view, with no effort to conceal the theft.

It was wild for me today to be at the funeral of Amal and see journalists there who are mouthpieces for the very media outlets who are complicit in our murders. They’re a fucking disgrace to the profession and to see them stand next to her coffin and cry, as if they haven’t been whitewashing Israeli war crimes for years, was mind-boggling. The audacity. The hubris. May all Israeli propagandists and their mouthpieces on the ground one day be put on trial for their crimes.

In 2019, with Margaret Hodge as vice-president, the Jewish Labour Movement elected Liron Velleman as their Policy Officer. Velleman later served as a Political Organiser for Hope not Hate. He is now a convicted paedophile.

In 2015 I ran against Peter Mandelson for Chancellorship of The University of Manchester. The votes came from three areas: The Board, The Alumni and The lecturers. I am not afraid to say that when the registrar read out the voting numbers on the phone I shed a tear. Lord Peter Mandelson: 5,269 votes Lemn Sissay: 7,131 votes. I served my full tenure as Chancellor from 2015 to 2022. Peter Mandelson pivoted and almost immediately aligned himself as chancellor at Manchester Metropolitan University which had no such system of voting. One of the greatest honours of my life is to give service. I loved being chancellor. I haven't commented on this particular matter up until now.
