Why are we simply handing out hard copies of novels to our whole classroom? We're excluding anyone who doesn't have foundational reading skills, or who has visual impairment, or who's multilingual. Instead we need to plan for barriers, so all students can access the text.

The number of displaced people surges again. That means more #Newcomers. Please challenge yourself to think: "I wonder what gifts they bring? What can we do to make them comfortable and to help them thrive here?" #BoostingAchievement

Finally Dan's commemorative sugar maple tree was planted today! It's a perfect match, just like Dan - strong, tall, and full of beauty. Can't wait to watch it grow and honour his memory for years to come. “make good choices and believe that you can”❤️🙏

Word problems or math texts, as I call them, should have the question placed at the beginning not at the end. This enables Ss to have a better mathematical context for the text that follows and a better understanding of the problem that the text describes.

Maintaining your child’s home language development while learning a new language can increase academic success and emotional well-being. Language is community. Language is a way of knowing. Language is culture. Language is identity. Language is power.

If you're not worried that the Ontario government is lowering educational standards for police officers, then you're definitely a part of the problem. I cannot imagine educational requirements being lowered for nurses, doctors, etc. This will have deadly consequences.

If justice is a real goal, the key question is not, How many book groups have we participated in? but rather, Do we recognize how racism operates around us? and What are we doing to eliminate it? --from my & @KatySwalwell's upcoming article on moving from awareness to action
