Ashura will be different this year! This year, the minbar will either speak truth or betray Imam al-Husayn (AS) Ashura will not come to us as it came in previous years. Something has shifted, whether we admit it or not. The lines are no longer blurred. Truth and falsehood are no longer hidden behind layers of ambiguity. The world is watching a confrontation unfold, and we... who claim allegiance to Imam al-Husayn (AS)... cannot pretend that this has nothing to do with us. To my brothers and sisters in the West, in Africa, in Australia, wherever you are... distance does not excuse us from responsibility. Karbala was never about geography. It was about taking a position, about where you stand when truth is being crushed. If we think we can sit comfortably, attend majalis, shed a few tears, and remain silent about the oppression of our time, then we have not understood Imam al-Husayn at all. This year, the minbar is being tested. The lecturers, the zakireen, the reciters... this is your test. You are not there to entertain. You are not there to recite Karbala as a story of the past. You are there to make it alive... so that it unsettles, awakens, and demands a response. You are inheritors of a pulpit that was built on blood. If the battle of truth and falsehood is not addressed clearly, if the oppressors and the Yazids of our time are not identified and named, if the oppression of today is not exposed for what it is, then what exactly are you doing? And to the communities... the organisers, the boards, the leaders... you carry a heavy amanah. Do not hide behind excuses of "sensitivity" or "safety" while Imam al-Husayn (AS) is being reduced to a cultural ritual. If you platform voices that avoid truth, then you are partners in that silence. And silence, in the logic of Karbala, has never been neutral. Something very dangerous is happening. The thread is being pulled from the tasbeeh. One thread... and the entire structure falls apart. From the mission of Imam al-Husayn, the concept of resistance is being removed. Resistance to Shirk and oppression. Resistance to Yazidiyyah. What remains is a hollow shell... love, emotion, tears... but disconnected from action, disconnected from responsibility. But Imam al-Husayn (AS) was not just to be loved. Imam al-Husayn (AS) was to be followed. His mission was not comfort... it was confrontation against Yazid. If our love does not lead to clarity, if our tears do not lead to courage, then we need to question what kind of Imam al-Husayn we have constructed in our minds. Reflect on this deeply. In Nahjul Balagha, the Commander of the Faithful draws our attention to the people of Thamud... only one individual committed the crime, yet an entire nation was destroyed. Why? Because they witnessed it, accepted it, and chose silence over resistance. One person carried out the act, but the punishment fell upon all. Because when falsehood is allowed to breathe, silence itself becomes a form of complicity. We must ask ourselves honestly... are we becoming that silent majority? Are we slowly normalising neutrality while oppression is right in front of us? This neutrality is not safety. It is a spiritual illness. And if we do not uproot it now, it will define us when the real test comes. Muharram is approaching in around 80 days. This is not going to be another month of mourning. This is a preparation. A filtering. A moment where hearts are separated... those who stand, and those who retreat. So find your courage now. Prepare your hearts now. Because when the Husayn of our time (AJTF) calls, there will be no time left to decide.
