The portrait of April Valentine outside my office honors a young mother who lost her life to an untreated blood clot during pregnancy. The CDC has recognized that 80% of maternal deaths are preventable, and Black women are disproportionately affected.

The Congressional Mamas’ Caucus partnered with Mothering Justice and the Ariah Foundation to create the In Her Honor portrait series to recognize the women of color that have died due to maternal health complications. Their names and stories demand action.

Today, I introduced a resolution to recognize April 11 to April 17 as Black Maternal Health Week with Congresswoman Lauren Underwood and Senator Cory Booker. You can read more about it on my website, adams.house.gov

Medical and dental residents shouldn't have to watch their student loan debt climb while they're training to serve our community. I am proud to co-sponsor the bipartisan REDI Act to stop interest from accruing during residency and help address the growing doctor shortage.

Their work in signals intelligence was vital but largely classified. It is long past time that we honor these veterans and thank them for their service.

Last Thursday, I introduced HR. 8211, the Army Security Agency Monument Act. This bill would establish a monument at Arlington National Cemetery honoring the men and women of the U.S. Army Security Agency who served during WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War.

During Black Maternal Health Week, we raise awareness of and take action to end our maternal health crisis. Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause. The #Momnibus is the solution.
