San Francisco is such an awesome place to perform, always great crowds. The city in general though? Depressing beyond belief

Adding to what @saluteAUT was saying…i will play a set of 100% “old music” and it will all be songs you have never heard in your entire life.

@jackblom_music @eli1ah 100%. if that is what the writer meant, cool, i agree completely - but in that case they have done a pretty bad job of getting that across

@saluteAUT @eli1ah i think the point would be better articulated as that the homage shouldn’t be the main/majority of the spectacle in sets. pulling out a classic here n there or an older deep cut is perfectly acceptable but when that’s the main draw/focus it doesn’t have any substance to it

Good read. If I was editor again I'd edit the 'C List DJs' line. Unnecessary dig at people making a contribution. Agree on the 'new music' point on most occasions. Like it being musically based in the year, or at least decade it's happening in. Agree on taking phones away / having stickers over camera for most club nights now. Most of the 'interesting' things happening in electronic music aren't happening in clubs imo, and that to me is a 10x bigger issue than sobriety culture. I'm not sure what the way out of clipification is. If people make people cover their phones in clubs though, the DJs also shouldn't post clips. Audience shouldn't be content, unless they opt in on a live stream or something. Good to explore more funding experiments. For the most part if you can pay for someone who doesn't / can't live in a city, to live in a city for a short time and create if it accelerates their work I think thats high impact. Agree with the weekday bookings to a certain scale / presentation. Most ideas can be done in that 1900-2230 Thursday concert time tbh. Prob better for most people that live in the city too, less so for people that need to travel in. Agree with pushing out their and trying new things. I guess to what extent is one thing still the same as the other. Are DJ AG and Mak10 or Steamdown and Five Points better representation of counter culture than anything happening in UK 'rave'? Maybe. Goofy social trends are whatever but I am thoroughly appreciative of DJs and Producers that have gone that extra mile over the last 5 years to give more to their audiences, and just using socials as their own media platform. Journalists rarely speak about the upside and all the info they get directly from source now, for FREE. Should those people be getting more bookings? Hell yea, and quite a lot of the time that is exactly what is happening. Agree on paying it forward to the legends. I think it's an individual choice though. People that get elevated to a certain level, and put someone they deeply respect on their show and introduce them to a new audience is still the easiest way to do this, especially when they can get paid away above what they are normally. And the final point, I wrote in 2022, and has gone from a fringe point of view, to near enough consensus :)

If you could change one thing about electronic music culture, what would it be? Resident Advisor staff weigh in. ra.co/features/4506

@eli1ah the sobriety take makes me want to pull my hair out. if sober people were catered to properly in clubs (smoothies? coffees? better selection of caffeinated drinks?) they would happily spend money. i am genuinely shocked RA put that in there, it's verging on irresponsible

@eli1ah the issue is more an overreliance on hits from any era. we don't need the victory lap acapella in every dj set and we also don't need to hear a reference to show me love every time we step out. the bangalter / yeah moment made me want to shoot myself

The current popularization has turned the minimal/deep tech house scene into a trend for most people rather than an actual supportive scene and it doesn’t seem like it will be something that will fade out anytime soon. I’ve noticed this at almost all the shows in this sphere the last few months but the crowd lately has been filled with “fans” who are quite literally there for the top tracks, that I could also strong equate to the ones trending on TikTok. Until that track comes on the crowd are either statues or just yapping with each other the entire time. It’s easy to just see on people at shows how much they really don’t want to be there. It’s okay, go home we won’t miss you +
Tal@talankori

I have things to say about the current/future state of the minimal/deep tech house scene in the states but unsure if y’all are ready for that conversation
