Even if you make the argument for Arsenal being wary of the legal ramifications of suspending him, what can be made of their apparent desire to extend his contract beyond this summer? Arsenal have long led the way in championing the women’s game, and have traditionally been held up as a club that “does things the right way”. Yet they have acted in a manner that raises questions about the sport’s moral compass and how it really views allegations of sexual assault towards women.
