On this day in 1967, The Doors released “Light My Fire,” the song that ignited their rise to fame. Originally running over seven minutes, the track was edited for radio and went on to become the band’s first No. 1 hit, securing their place in rock history.

When making L.A.WOMAN, The Doors wanted to record somewhere more comfortable than their usual studio at Sunset Sound. Producer Bruce Botnick and the band set up a recording space inside their rehearsal room, The Doors Workshop, at 8512 Santa Monica Blvd.
