My favorite response to hate comments: What if they’re right? Then go down the rabbit hole. It permanently transforms hot buttons into obvious observations you agree with. “Alex wants to make money” - yes, I agree with you. “Alex isn’t as cool as people think he is.” - yes I agree with you. “You’re an idiot.” - yes, I agree with you. “This guys numbers are fake.” - I don’t agree with you, but they’re honestly more unbelievable to me than they are to you because I live with them. So I get it. “He probably rented that private jet.” - you’re right. Chartering is renting. We agree. “He’s on steroids.” - yep. I’m on testosterone. And if u take ‘more’ they become steroids. So you kinda just say “yea - I get it” rather than fighting it. And it uses up a lot less mental energy. Because the worst case is they make a point about your flaws. And if you were ‘t trying to publicly save face, you’d probably agree. ‘Yea I am an idiot sometimes. Yea I can be selfish. Yea I could’ve made that better…etc’ This all stemmed from a question about ‘hate’ comments. And the honest truth is - I think I come to agree with most of them. Which transformed them from hate into ‘observations I agree with’. Which I have no reason to fight. TLDR: A different lens I’ve found helpful. ‘What if they’re right?’
