Last week, the Texas Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Aircraft Operations Division (AOD) assisted our partners at the @TXForestService in combating a wildfire south of Bastrop. Air Crews worked in conjunction with Star Flight and the Texas National Guard, dropping roughly 4,500 gallons of water on the flames. 🔥🔥 DPS is proud to work alongside our state partners to keep Texas communities safe. While some parts of Texas are getting rain - dry conditions persist in much of the state. Please - be careful! #LawEnforcement #PublicSafety #wildfireseason #safetytips #DPS

You may hear "contained" and "controlled" during a wildfire, but they don't mean the same thing. 🚧Contained = fireline is in place to stop the spread 🧯Control = fire no longer expected to grow Understanding these terms can help when following updates. @AllHazardsTFS

Incident Information - Texas A&M Forest Service
Over the past week, we have responded to 18 wildfires for 2,423 acres statewide. Fire conditions have improved across much of the state, but the High Plains and Caprock regions have not received as much beneficial rainfall and will continue to support fire activity.

Burls are rounded lumps that form on a tree's trunk or branches. They may look harmful, but they're actually a benign response to stress. Unusual cell growth creates the unique patterns that make burl wood dense and strong. Learn more: tfsweb.tamu.edu/trees/tree-hea…

🚫 If you fly, we can’t. 🚫 A drone over the #BellFire (Dickens Co.) threatened wildfire response today. With 30+ aircraft across Texas, drones put firefighters at risk and can force aerial operations to shut down. 🚨 See smoke/fire? Call 911.

We responded to 70 wildfires burning 6,989 acres in the past week. Dry fuels and near-record heat are raising wildfire risk statewide. Fire activity is expected across the Plains, and in South, Central, and East Texas with a risk of larger, hard-to-control fires this weekend.
