Let’s make this thread a comprehensive list of Christmas movies. I’ll begin with the obvious reigning champ, It’s A Wonderful Life (1946), directed by Frank Capra. Critically panned on its release, the film has endured precisely because it wore its sentimentality on its sleeve. The reason I love the movie is mostly because it’s about overcoming despair, which is something we all seem to struggle with yearly during the holiday season. This year seems to be hitting extremely hard, but we must remember that it truly is a wonderful life.

Keith Gordon’s A Midnight Clear is an excellent Christmas movie, based on true events and shot by Tom Richmond, who also shot Killing Zoe.

@AVARY Have you ever seen Bundle of Joy? The epitome of 1950's cheese. I used to watch it with my mom, it was her favorite! Knowing what happens with the actors behind the scenes gives it a little bit of an ominous edge lol

"Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about... they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath? Anyway, my father didn't think so. People were human beings to him. But to you, a warped, frustrated old man, they're cattle. Well in my book, my father died a much richer man than you'll ever be." That's only a portion of that speech. Stewart's ability to deliver long -- very long -- monologues with speed, clarity, passion, and ease is such a wonderful talent. This isn't just my favorite Christmas movie, but in my top five of all films. You literally watch for 125 minutes a man get beat up again and again and again -- pushed to the point of suicide, and then the final five minutes pack the greatest and most satisfying ending of any film.

@AVARY One of my favorite cult Christmas movies...Gives the feeling of wintery Celtic magic on a dying/renewing earth (in a weird way it struck me as John Boorman-like). A reading of Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Clause that plays like The Mysteries of Love from Blue Velvet.
