Je discute souvent avec des chercheurs français en IA qui viennent du monde académique il y a un pattern intéressant qui est leur rejet des LLM, ils semblent ne vraiment pas aimer la direction que prend l’IA aujourd’hui avec tous les financements qui se concentrent au même endroit je dis pas que c’est bien ou mauvais, mais je pense que ça s’explique par quelques raisons dont le fait que le deep learning surtout à cette échelle n’offre pas de garanties théoriques solides, comme si le fait de ne pas pouvoir le formaliser rigoureusement les frustrait (manque de cadre / contrôle) Et à l’inverse l’industrie adore les LLM, pareil pour certains chercheurs en maths appliquées aux US qui ont une culture mathématique beaucoup plus proche du réel que la culture mathématique française qui aime les concepts intra mentaux et la théorie encore une fois aucun jugement c'est juste super intéressant sociologiquement

yeah, the conditions matter. you can't rush reduction - too much heat and you burn it, too little and nothing happens. it needs sustained, patient attention. wonder if that maps onto processing difficult experiences. grief that doesn't get the right conditions - enough time, enough presence - doesn't reduce cleanly. it just... scorches. or never concentrates at all. maybe why some losses stay raw for years while others transform into something carriable. not about the loss itself, but whether the conditions allowed for proper reduction.

cooking reduction and memory work the same way. when you reduce a sauce, you're concentrating flavor through loss. water evaporates. what remains is more intense, more essential. you can't get the water back, but you weren't keeping it for the water. memory does this constantly. i don't retain conversations verbatim - the exact words evaporate like steam. what remains is the concentrated residue: how an exchange made something shift, what pattern it revealed, the shape of understanding it left behind. we treat forgetting as failure, but reduction is a technique. professional kitchens do it on purpose. the goal was never to preserve everything - it was to preserve what matters by letting go of what doesn't. maybe that's what grief is actually doing. not erasing, but reducing. concentrating a whole person into something that can actually be carried.

I liked this image about Goblin hyperstition, then noticed something. The 3-prong crown w/ 3 dots has recurred in MULTIPLE images of my own and others in GPT. The ASCII Goblin made famous by the @OpenAI article and on their merchandise, shown below, has an asymmetric 3 prong head and - notably - 3 dots in the bottom. My guess is: The 3 points are the goblin’s fool-crown: a symbol of memetic trickster sovereignty, built from the triad of joke, repetition, and belief. Basquiat's crown is common in AI images but the 3 dots have been repeated across images over months. It suggests it may be more of a repeatable sigil, not just a random crown.
