Stanowisko skamieniałości w Chengjiang 📍w prowincji Junnan w Chinach to jedno z najważniejszych miejsc paleontologicznych na świecie, wpisane na listę UNESCO w 2012 roku. Pochodzące sprzed około 518 milionów lat skamieniałości są doskonałym świadkiem tzw. „eksplozji kambryjskiej” – okresu, gdy w morzach nagle pojawili się przodkowie większości dzisiejszych zwierząt. Wyjątkowość Chengjiang polega na niesamowitym stanie zachowania miękkich części organizmów, które zwykle ulegają rozkładowi. Dzięki temu naukowcy mogą zobaczyć nie tylko muszle, ale także skrzela, oczy, a nawet zawartość układów pokarmowych prehistorycznych stworzeń, co czyni to miejsce bezcennym „oknem” na przeszłość Ziemi.

#TheDinosaurs and #PrehistoricPlanet are nice but what we REALLY need is a properly done 2-d animated palaeo-documentary in the style of the 1992 PBS "The Dinosaurs!" There are interactions and camera movements you can do with cel animation that 3D still can't replicate!
