Day two of our @CleanIlkley project on the ecology of the Wharfe funded by Ilkley Town Council and Wharfedale Nats focusing on pollution from sewage effluent. Sampling inverts and filamentous algae today. Diatoms and chemistry yesterday.

Great morning with our junior group, the Saplings, on the Wharfe, looking at algal biofilms, riverflies and fish. All excited to find stoneflies, cased caddis, heptagenid mayflies, bullheads and minnows! Thanks to John Rishworth for taking the lead.

Here’s Scout back with us in the village now waiting release in the spring near the Scout Hut where she was found in poor condition last October. Thanks to Steph from Bingley Rescue she’s now in perfect health and weighing a mighty 900 g.
