In 2020 I put forward the names Hester Woodley & Princess Dinubolu, the two women from my Forgotten Black Essex (2018) films to be worthy of receiving commemorative plaques. This month the women made history & became the first two women of colour to receive Blue Plaques in Essex!

Because I grew up in poverty, I'll never be able to afford to live by the sea in the village where I grew up, where the average house price is £700,000, I can only visit, collect the fragments of me that I left in the undercurrent, before leaving again #UndercurrentBook #Cornwall

And the BBC needs to be tougher & more confident in its own defence. Downing St once rang Today to heap threats & obscenities on a presenter, who eventually said ‘Can I just make one point?’ Downing St man, surprised: ‘Yes?’ Presenter: ‘Fuck off.’ And he put the phone down.
Armando Iannucci@Aiannucci

This week’s story will keep happening unless the BBC is truly independent of the government of the day. Appointments to its Board, and of its Director General, and determination of its funding, need to be visibly separate from Downing St. Or the public will lose trust in the BBC.

Growing up in the northwest of England, all parents would complain about their kids leaving lights on by saying 'It's like Blackpool illuminations in here' so how on earth did they express this down south?

To my astonishment, I’m 60 today. I didn't expect to make 30: it was nearly curtains so many times. I owe my life to remarkable luck, friends, family, the NHS and, on one occasion, a total stranger on the road.

Jonathan Gullis has a timid majority of only 6,286. Stoke on Trent North, it’s your duty to absolutely humiliate the bastard at the next General Election.

@seanpwcurrie Hi Sean! May I ask about your ticket type and route? I’ve not made this journey yet but it looked as though an Interrail ticket might help reduce the cost. Perhaps you know first-hand!

I grew up below the poverty line - I know that trains are inaccessible for many. But most people in Western Europe *could* afford train travel if they sacrificed certain things at their destination. And with this thread, I'm trying to convince you that it's worth it 👀 7/

I'm on a slow 3-day-long train journey to visit my partner's family in Sicily ☀️ I hate to be that guy, but we NEED to talk about how flying is such a con. 1/

The bailiffs have taken the oak and are in the process of dismantling the camp and soon this absolute treasure of a tree. We we're too few. m.facebook.com/story.php?stor…

@DailyMirror We should be phasing out big roads for private users @NationalHways. Disgusted to hear other trees have already been cut down to expand or re-route a private access road.

@DailyMirror I trust you are strenuously opposing the felling of this great tree @HazlegrovePrep. What’s the point of anything if there’s no natural environment for your alumni to inherit?

The Great #Ouse at low flow is running with a massive algal bloom and has been since spring. Same for 4 yrs. Rivers are in trouble. We need massive change. We know what to do... Lower abstraction, invest in STWs & farm back from rivers. This river state in not acceptable.
