Editors, this one simple shift could change everything for your sound.
When doing sound design, make sure to stack sounds.
Adding a single sound effect sounds like every other generic one and has no emphasis behind it.
Stacking adds emotion and makes them feel more premium.
You don’t always have to do this, but keep it in mind, when something feels off you’ll know how to fix it.
Productized services are just the beginning in my opinion.
Once you dial in your service the expansion revenue that's possible is the more long-term interesting play.
Group services
Media
Consulting
Community
Membership
etc.
Don't stop at productizing the service.
Thinking of putting a new Mac Mini Pro in the studio for video and training as a dedicated machine.
I really want a 15” MacBook Air for size (currently onM1 MBP 14”) and larger screen.
Sort of feel like it makes more sense to have a 16”MBP it’s just so big to lug around.
If you’re a multi machine person, what’s your setup?
Most editing portfolios don’t fail because of bad work.
They fail because of bad structure.
It’s usually just a random page with your edits slapped on it.
No direction.
No explanation.
No clear next step.
And this is a piece of advice I got from an 8-figure business owner:
If you let someone leave without knowing exactly what to do next or any other clear steps to follow, you will never close anything from it and you might lose them forever.
Your portfolio isn’t just a gallery.
It’s a funnel, so treat it like one.
One client can change everything.
Many creators focus on getting their first client, but the real opportunity comes after you get the job.
As a video editor, I’ve realized something important: the quality of your work determines whether the client comes back… or disappears.
When you deliver low-quality work:
• The client may never hire you again
• They won’t refer you to others
• Your network stops growing
But when you deliver great work, the opposite happens.
One satisfied client can hire you again, refer you to others, and recommend you within their network.
Suddenly, one opportunity becomes many.
That’s why quality and professionalism matter so much. Sometimes the best marketing is simply doing great work. ✨
