@jta_theideaman @BR_Opossum @Techjunkie_Aman Bazzite isn't actually steam os. It uses some components and emulates the look and feel, but SteamOS is Arch based and Bazzite is Fedora based. Nothing wrong with that. I use Bazzite on my Desktop as well, but it's important to keep the difference in mind, as something that...

SteamOS just quietly turned into a nightmare for Windows handhelds. Valve added: • ASUS ROG Ally support • Lenovo Legion Go support • MSI Claw support • OneXPlayer support • VRR + HDR • TDP controls • BIOS + firmware updates • Wayland by default • Linux kernel 6.16 • lower controller latency • better GPU memory management And buried in the changelog: “Initial support for upcoming Steam Machine hardware.” This is no longer “Steam Deck software.” Valve is building a universal gaming OS for handheld PCs.

@smesho_bg @SebAaltonen They cost billions to build (a single Lithography machine is half a billion). And there is only one company, ASML that makes high end Lithography machines. Building a new chip factory can easily take half a decade.

@SebAaltonen What I don't understand is, if demand for chips is enough to warrant an increase of 10 TIMES, then why isn't everyone building new chip factories like crazy?

This Steam Machine discussion highlights the hopeless state of gaming hardware today. We had awesome 3 decades. Hardware giants were designed advanced chips for us. Today, CPUs, GPUs and RAM have massive professional demand. Cloud servers started it and crypto and AI expanded it to GPUs. We will never get cheap top tier hardware anymore. Professionals are willing to pay 10x more for the biggest chips. That is the sad reality for gamers. We all thought that 1699€ RTX 4090 and $699 PS5 Pro were overpriced at launch, but today those feel like great investments. I will be using mine for a long time. The $399 PS5 launch price feels like a distant memory. It's a 5 year old console now, and it's faster than rumored Steam Hardware specs. Steam Hardware likely ends up being 2x the price. We used to get almost 10x faster hardware every 5 years (PS2->PS3->PS4->PS5), at similar price. Not anymore.
Moore's Law Is Dead@mooreslawisdead

@TimSweeneyEpic Well the truth is sometimes "harsh". And the truth of this matter is that it doesn't matter how @Valve got there, the price is too high. There is simply a pricing threshold for every product, that once crossed, makes it unviable. Valve sprinted past that line.

@vh_wes @SoupyFresh There is an explanation: deadly weapons (the survival knife) were removed from the replicator, after there was a massacre among colonists. You could even spin the whole thing into the mega corporation trying to control the people, by taking away the last remaining...

@Subnautica What the fuck did you guys do with one of my favorite games. 😡😡 Unreal engine 5 is a fucking trash. The game has lost the essence of Subnautica. Besides that, you had 11 years to make it and launched the game fucking incomplete. I'mma refund it.

Nope, real talk, this shit legitimately pisses me off and I’ll tell you why When you’re in the fucking military, video games are one of the only things you MIGHT get to enjoy while you’re deployed for 7+ months. So now what happens when a port call gets cancelled and you can’t lug your stupid fucking PS5 to the hotel to MAYBE get to connect to the wifi and update your shit? You lose all your fucking games. Fuck you, Sony
Culture Crave 🍿@CultureCrave

Any PlayStation game purchased digitally after March's sytem update will reportedly now require an internet connection once every 30 days to validate the license 🎮 If the console stays offline longer than that, the games will not launch until you reconnect (via @MrZackXOfficial)

Valve has reportedly made a major internal price hike for its upcoming Steam Machine. New leaks from hardware expert Brad Lynch indicate that the Steam Machine has received the largest cost increase among Valve’s new hardware due to global shortages and price spikes in RAM and memory components for PCs. Thanks to AI, the Steam Machine could now end up more expensive than the standalone Steam Frame VR headset when they launch. That’s exactly the opposite of what Valve wanted to do in its initial plans. Valve has already acknowledged delays and pricing reviews for these devices, but exact prices haven’t been revealed yet. We should get official launch details for the full lineup soon.
