You are what you say 'No' to
We're afraid to say no - what if I never get another opportunity like this!
The irony is the more you say no, the better the opportunities become
@patrickdichter I've done it extensively, but without the constant follow ups and super aggressive drip campaigns. I've had folks come back around like 6-12 months later.
Although I certainly would not say its a very high hit rate
Big 4 Transparency is running a new version of our Busy Season Morale Boost in 2026.
Last year we sponsored pizza parties. The year before that we gave away a sweet Casio calculator watch. This year we're bringing the accounting community together by donating $1 to a charity determined by the most upvotes for every valid submission to the site from March 15th to April 15th.
So help make a difference, spread the word to some colleagues, and support a good cause (the current front runner for the selected charity is the National Alliance on Mental Health)
@mountainwesttax so inspired by your second episode on @B4Transparency. i DREAM of working for myself <40 hours a week. ty for being an amazing role model and just iconic in general
In this week’s episode of the podcast, we had a 2 year check-in with @mountainwesttax on her new firm journey!
When you’re setting off on your entrepreneurial journey its important to understand what you’re really chasing after.
For Jaime it wasn’t all about chasing the biggest number, it was about family and being in control of both her schedule and outputs.
So although she reflects on the first 2 years saying she initially thought she’d be able to “share a bigger number”, she’s achieved a really successful outcome so far with the firm and sets a great example of what can be achieved in 2 short years of building a firm as a new mother!
I'm on tour the next 30 days, 8 cities, talking accounting firm stuff and I want to see you!
LA
Denver
Chicago
Atlanta
Austin
Dallas
Minneapolis
Boston
The coolest thing that happens at these events?
You meet some local folks who run firms and leave the event with a few new friends
But also, I mean, we'll get to hang. And that's gonna be great.
If you're going to be at one of them, let me know so I feel even more guilty when I can't remember your name.
Other cities we're prioritizing this year:
Portland
Seattle
Toronto (is this a city?)
Philadelphia
NYC
London
Who's missing from this list?
Just a PSA there’s no new episode of the podcast this week!
We’re not running out of ideas or amazing people to interview, in fact we’re picking up steam with some incredible guests and a few major announcements coming soon 👀
But I also want to promote getting out there and enjoying your July 4th / Canada Day week, and just soaking in summer with friends and family!
So instead of an episode, here’s my dog Cannoli donning his best Canada Day outfit! 🎆🎇
@ReformedResist Mostly stick to more operational topics and peoples’ individual experiences - if I ever have someone from the AICPA on though it’d be an interesting debate and conversation for sure.
I think it’s a bit more nuanced, but I wouldn’t disagree overall
