yep. bc of the meningitis outbreak. here’s what’s going on, MenB is a rare form of meningitis that causes inflammation around the brain and spinal cord, there was an outbreak of this in the UK that's killed students at kent university, where the spread seems to have started. it spreads through close contact like kissing, being sneezed/coughed on, or sharing vapes, straws, drinks, etc. there are some concerns about potential wider spread, but so far it's stayed mostly linked to the kent area.

Two young lives lost already. Thanks for the clear breakdown as good to stay informed. From what UKHSA is saying, it's still mostly contained to the Kent/Canterbury area with contact tracing + vaccines rolling out fast.
Not airborne like COVID, so hopefully they can keep it from spreading wider.

@nosiey_ @faketonichilds guys. doctors all over, including my mom, are all having the same discussions right now. there isn’t a widespread concern of an outbreak, but we must be aware, know the symptoms and know what to do to mitigate this issue.

You guys need to stop importing problems from other countries, because first of all, people get vaccinated for meningitis here and it mostly affects the young. The spread is a bit weird but also it’s because ground zero is a Uni. It’ll taper off.

however, there is a vaccine for MenB in south africa, it can be accessed through private healthcare providers, usually requiring a prescription. it’s roughly R1500+ per dose and is often recommended for high-risk individuals such as babies, children and students in university.
