Exactly. I see your outreach is secular. Hooray. Even some on the far-left can be pro-life. One such example (in the US) is the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising, is a feminist, 2SLGBTQIA+ identifying, anti-capitalism, pro-life organization. The leadership includes self-described atheists, socialists, anarcho mutualists, and communists. According to this group, “Abortion does not disappear societal problems; it disappears human beings.” (I happen to be a faith-based pro-life person.) What we know—from poll after poll after poll—whether religious or non-religious, is that the majority of Europeans, Canadians, and Americans support restrictions on abortion. That restrictive, ethical line varies. For examples: Only if the mother's life is at risk. Or up to a fetal heartbeat. Or to the end of the first trimester (12 weeks). But without equivocation, NOT when preborn babies are viable (~23 weeks). The UK Labour Party politicians—like many politicians here in Canada—have lost their minds and their humanity. Dostoevsky acutely wrote: “If God did not exist, everything would be permitted.” Including aborting babies. Including infanticide. But God does exist. As does the sacredness of human life. Though some people may believe or wish otherwise, abortion is not and never has been a Christian conviction. Since the genesis of the Church, this Judeo-Christian belief has embodied universal human dignity. From antiquities historian Michael J. Gorman, "[Christians] pleaded for the poor, the weak, women, children and the unborn. This pro-life ethic discarded hate in favour of love, war in favour of peace, oppression in favour of justice, bloodshed in favour of life." May authentic followers of Jesus—Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant—continue the life-affirming legacy of the Church, pastorally and prophetically. This is to say, love them both: mother and child. Our work continues. Elections matter. __________ For those on this X string, if of interest, attached is a cursory overview about abortion and the Church.

I have always actively supported the House of Lords as a ratifying and common sense chamber to scrutinise bad legislation put forward from the House of Commons. I am not sure how I can defend them now The 185 Peers that voted to decriminalize late/full term abortion should hang their heads in shame It seems wisdom and humanity has left the building.

Labour pushing things further when it comes to abortion honestly feels barbaric to me. My daughter was born at 29 weeks. Tiny, fragile, fighting for every breath… but alive. So when people talk about late-term abortion like it’s nothing, I can’t relate to that at all. I’ve seen what a baby at that stage really is. I’ve held her. I’ve watched her grow. This isn’t politics to me, it’s personal. I know there are complex situations, I’m not ignoring that. But I will never understand how we’ve got to a point where the humanity of babies this far along can be overlooked. My daughter wasn’t just “29 weeks.” She was a life. She was loved. She was here. And she still is.

Before, it was illegal to abort a stillborn baby after 24 weeks. A grieving mother would have to carry their dead child to term with all the risks that come with it. The bill that the Lords just passed decriminalised it.

Abortion up to birth is a barbaric, inhumane idea. One that should never be allowed validity. Life is precious, life is a gift, a human life inside the womb is innocent and defenceless. That life must be protected.

There's confusion about what the abortion vote was. What's been approved is women performing their own abortions at any point up to birth. Their campaign doesn't stop here. They want "full decriminalisation" - abortions for any reason, at any gestation, performed by doctors.

When I was a pre-med student at Trinity College Dublin we had an “objective” lecture on abortion from the Irish State Pathologist Prof. John Harbison. He went through in great detail how abortions are performed and how they are not the simple “procedure” commonly assumed. What takes place was so grim and horrific. One of my fellow students fainted and the female students in particular were very uncomfortable. There is a reason the harsh reality is kept under wraps. And now imagine this horror happening to a fully formed baby. We have to be better than this.
Tim Stanley@timothy_stanley

Tonight peers vote on abortion: a social justice issue. In one ward, doctors fight to save a baby. In another, they kill a baby. The difference, very often, comes down to which baby is wanted or can be afforded. Where is the equality? Where is the fairness? 1/2

This is now the fifth position Prime Minister Carney has taken on Iran. Now we learn that Canada joined the statement only after it had already been issued by the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan. Late to the table and changing its stance as events unfold. It’s now clear that inconsistency is the theme, not nuance. Allies are acting while Canada, under Carney, is reacting, recalibrating, and arriving after the fact… again and maybe not even for long. theglobeandmail.com/world/article-…
