We've studied coral bleaching for decades. Documented it. Mourned it. Thought we knew the story. Then octocorals started bleaching. Some species. Not others. Some survive. Some don't. Why? How long can they last? We don't know. We're still at square one #Coral #Bleaching

It was a welcome surprise to find this Euphyllia glabrescens colony loaded with brooded larvae. This gorgeous coral is just one of the many scleractinian species l recorded at Jamieson Reef in the North-West Kimberley Marine Park. @ausmarineparks @wamuseum #KimberleyReefConnect

This week we’ve been lucky enough to experience the spawning behaviour of the Heliopora Blue Coral colonies! Heliopora grow their larvae on the surface of their polyps. It’s the developing larvae on the surface of the polyp that give them their brilliant white colour 😁
