Regarding Garrett. The Lions Equivalent Was Never Realistic Want to understand why Detroit was never doing this? Translate it. The Lions version of this trade is shipping out Aiden Hutchinson — plus a premium pick — to rent an older star. That's the cost of a Garrett-level acquisition. Nobody seriously wants that. The names fans floated don't survive contact with reality either. You're not moving Jack Campbell coming off an extension. You're not moving Hutch, whose deal has barely kicked in. The guys recovering from injuries aren't fetching that price. The math simply never pointed at Detroit. Different Blueprints, Same Goal There's a real philosophical split here, and it's worth respecting. The Rams and Eagles run their rosters one way — aggressive, all-in, comfortable mortgaging future picks. Holmes runs Detroit another way: build the trenches through the draft, extend your own, don't blow up the timeline chasing one window. And about that Rams window — it looks like a one-year sprint. They're going all-in for this season, and after that the bill comes due. If you're going to make a move like this, the year you already look like an NFC favorite is the year to do it. But that's their math, built off their roster construction. It isn't a knock on Detroit that the Lions didn't match it. Garrett is a once-in-a-lifetime player. Nobody's pretending otherwise. But great players move all the time without it being right for every team. The Lions passing on a deal that would've cost them their own young cornerstone isn't timidity. It's discipline — the same discipline that built this roster in the first place.
